Lighthouse & Elephant Seal Hike

MRC &FOLC Team Up To Offer A Lighthouse & Elephant Seal Hike at Punta Gorda on May 7th at 10AM!
Join Mattole Restoration Council and Friends of the Lost Coast on May 7th for an interpretive hike with BLM Archaeologist Sharyl Kinnear-Ferris and Dr. Dawn Goley, Professor of Zoology at Cal Poly Humboldt. Punta Gorda is a favorite Lost Coast destination that offers stunning coastal scenery, a historic lighthouse, and a thriving elephant seal colony. This unique outing offers the chance to learn about both the history and preservation of the Punta Gorda light station and the elephant seal colony that resides nearby. Don’t miss out!

The group will meet at 10AM at the Mattole Beach parking area, located at the end of Lighthouse Rd. in the Petrolia area. From there, we will caravan a short distance to Windy Point Rd, before embarking on a 1.8 mile steep downhill hike to Punta Gorda. Space is limited and pre-registration is required! Participants are encouraged to bring water and a snack, dress in layers, and wear sturdy (preferably waterproof) footwear, and are also encouraged to travel in a 4WD vehicle. This hike is weather dependent and could be canceled in the event of rain, high creeks, or strong winds. Email info@lostcoast.org to register or for more information, including carpool opportunities from Whitethorn.
