On Saturday, December 20 gather round the Town Clock for the 10th Annual Small Town Christmas. Festivities include a lighted Christmas Parade, horse drawn carriage rides, a Christmas choir, dance performances, a visit from Old Saint Nick, lots of local vendors, libations for the adults and much, much more. Join FOLC, BLM & Lost Coast Mike for this free mushroom hunt in the King Range on Sunday, December 14 from 10am until 3pm. With local mushroom enthusiast Lost Coast Mike as our guide, this off-trail exploration (location TBA soon) will cover ethical foraging and mushroom identification.

Gyppo Ale Mill hosts Farm to Ferment, a six-course harvest feast on December 12 centering local ingredients and community. In partnership with French Ranch Farms and Humboldt Cider Company, this communal dinner celebrates the full cycle of farm, ferment, and flavor — offering a true taste of the Lost Coast.

Gather round in the Victorian Village of Ferndale for this beloved local Christmas tradition  - the lighting of America's Tallest Living Christmas Tree. Since 1934, Ferndale's volunteer firefighters have adorned the giant spruce at the end of Main Street in lights, and folks have come from near and far to witness the first moment its glow is cast upon the wintry December night. There will be free hot cocoa and homemade treats.

Ceremony begins promptly at 5:30pm.

The Southern Humboldt Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center, Gyppo Ale Mill, and our Cove culinary neighbors are thrilled to come together for the fourth annual Dine Around – Taste of Shelter Cove. You’ll experience all the flavors and locales of the Lost Coast in four courses, with each venue offering something innovative, exciting and delicious!

Treat yourself and your loved ones to a gourmet Thanksgiving Dinner at the beautiful Historic Benbow Inn (and save yourself the dirty dishes at home!). Choose from a traditional turkey dinner with flare, or selection of other artisanal main courses. The first course and scrumptious fall dessert book end a holiday meal to remember.

Community members are invited to gather at the Mateel Community Center for the annual Garberville Veteran's Association Thanksgiving Meal on Thursday, November 28 from 12pm-6pm.

Gyppo Ale Mill hosts a Peaches & Pies Supper. Enjoy locally sourced savory and sweet delights featuring (you guessed it!) peaches and pies. The star of the show (peaches) makes its appearance throughout the offerings, as well as in the libations.

Gather your friends for a delightful wine-centric event at the historic Benbow Inn. The Benbow Wine Auction includes a complimentary tasting showcasing ten Northern California wineries paired with locally made hors d’oeuvres. The live and silent auctions include original art, jewelry, wine packages, trips and more. Hosted by the Benbow Historic Inn. Proceeds benefit the Southern Humboldt Health Foundation.

On Friday, November 1 from 6–9 PM, Gyppo Ale Mill hosts Marigolds & Memories—a Día de los Muertos celebration to honor loved ones here and departed. with DJ G. Davis, a skeleton costume contest, photo backdrop by D. Perkins, and real marigold decorations from FlowerStream Farm. The kitchen will be serving a Mexican-inspired menu, and of course, libations will be flowing

Ghosts, ghouls and goblins of all ages are invited to KMUD’s Monster Mash-Up: A Community Party at the Mateel. Celebrate All Hallows Eve on October 31 from 7pm-midnight with Dr. Frankenstein’s live art and Spooky Laboratory, kid-friendly, bone-shaking dance music, a Halloweenie roast (hmm hot dogs!), cosmic projections, festive libations (there will be drinks for the little monsters, too), trick-or-treating, and costume contests with prizes to die for. Hosted by KMUD Redwood Community Radio. Kids 12 & under FREE with an adult! $10 at the door for everyone else. Spooktacular!

Ghouls and goblins gather round at the 38th annual Halloween Festival at the Garberville Town Square on October 31st. Dress your best for a costume contest! There will also be a trunk-or-treat, a dance contest (with cash prizes) live music from Irie Rockerz, a flash mob and more! Festivities will be held from 4-6pm. Spooktacular!

Run, jog or walk beneath the stunning old-growth redwood canopy along Avenue of the Giants at the 44th Annual Humboldt Redwoods Marathon. Entry fee benefits Save the Redwoods. Register online. 

On Saturday, October 11, the Paradise Royale Mountain Bike Race twists and turns through the King Range National Conservation Area. Set among some of the most stunning wilderness in the world, this 12.2-mile course boasts stunning views of the Lost Coast and surrounding protected redwood forests. With two creek crossings and an elevation gain of more than 2,000 feet, PRMBR offers a challenge for riders of all levels.

This sweet town-wide event celebrates local history and local farms. The day-long festival begins with a street fair in downtown Fortuna, featuring vendors, food trucks, music and more. Then, head on over to Clendenen’s Cider Works, the hub of the Fortuna Apple Harvest Festival for apple and cider tasting, family activities, more music and, of course, the opportunity to take some of the bounty home with you. The celebration ends at Rohner Park with a themed skate night.

The 36th Annual Roll on the Mattole returns to SoHum on Saturday, July 26th! Bring your friends and loved ones to the banks of the scenic Mattole River (at the Mattole Grange) for fun-filled event, with dancing, food, local craft vendors and, as tradition, the esteemed Wildland Firefighter Challenge. Live bands perform throughout the day and well into the evening. There will be a kids zone for the little ones, too.
